Automatic Passenger Counting (APC)

How many passengers board and alight—and where? This question sits at the heart of every operational and planning decision in public transportation. The DILAX Automatic Passenger Counting (APC) system captures passenger movements with up to 99% accuracy, providing the data foundation for efficient, plannable, and fundable operations. It combines precision door sensors with a central counting unit that work together seamlessly.

APC   Benefits

Transparency
Precise insight into passenger flows, capacity utilization, and mobility behavior as the basis for informed decisions.
Responsiveness
Real-time data enables fast responses to disruptions, capacity bottlenecks, or short-notice operational changes.
Planning confidence
Long-term analytics support sustainable mobility concepts for transit operators, authorities, and planning agencies alike.
Seamless integration
The counting systems integrate into existing back-office systems—from operations control and planning platforms to ticketing and billing systems.

Our Automatic Passenger Counting System at a Glance

The DILAX APC system consists of two coordinated components: door-mounted sensors that precisely capture boarding and alighting events, and the Passenger Counting Unit (PCU), which stores, processes, and transmits the counting data. Both components are certified for use in buses and rail vehicles and meet all applicable data protection requirements.
